Click to watch this video on France 24

Okinawa – the picturesque Japanese archipelago complete with sandy beaches, tourists… and US military bases. The locals are exasperated with the noise, accidents and rising crime rates. What they want is for the Americans, there since Japan’s defeat in 1945, to leave.

The problems raised in this video are similiar to those world wide where there is a US base.

Chalmers Johnson on American Hegemony

Speaking Freely – Chalmers Johnson on American Hegemony
from Ice Goldberg on Vimeo.

Author of Blowback, The Sorrows Of Empire and Nemesis: The Last Days Of The American Empire, Chalmers Johnson has literally written the book on the concept of American Hegemony. A former naval officer and consultant of the C.I.A., he now serves as professor Emeritus at UC San Diego. As co-founder and President of the Japan Policy Research Institute, Mr. Johnson also continues to promote public education about Asia’s role in the international community.

In this exclusive interview, you will find out why the practice of empire building is, by no means, a thing of the past. As the United States continues to expand its military forces around the globe, the consequences are being suffered by each and every one of us.

Chomsky: Obama’s Imperialist Policies

Noam Chomsky criticizes Obama’s rightwing policies, war making, medical care, coziness with commercial interests . He warns of the coming war in Kandahar and Israel’s possible attack on Iran that could go nuclear. In the Q & A, moderated by Karen, Chomsky comments on BP’s Gulf Oil disaster, the likely next financial crisis, the Free Gaza Flotilla incident, urges Guantanamo being returned to Cuba and tortured detainees either being tried or released.

Chomsky says Israel, ‘US military base’

Saudi Arabia gives green light to Israeli raid on Iran

Saudi Arabia made preparations to allow the over-flight of the Israeli air force in the case of an eventual bombing raid on Iran’s nuclear facilities. According to media reports, just days after the UN Security Council imposed new sanctions on the Islamic Republic, the oil kingdom of Saudi Arabia has agreed to allow Israel to utilize an essential corridor in its air space and thereby shorten the route for a raid on Iran.

In order to allow the Israeli raid, Riyadh has carried out tests to make certain its own jets are not scrambled and missile defense systems not activated. Once the Israelis are through, the kingdom’s air defenses will return to full alert.

“The Saudis have given their permission for the Israelis to pass over and they will look the other way, according to US Defense Department sources, which averred that Saudi jets will not be scrambled and Israel’s will not be shot down. The US State Department is apparently in agreement. …

Is Obama the puppeteer or puppet on a string?

THIS TRACK is not an attack upon the American people
It is an attack upon the system within which they live
Since 1945 the united states has attempted to
Overthrow more than 50 foreign governments
In the process the us has caused the end of life
For several million people, and condemned many millions
More to a live of agony and despair

‘We’re acting like a latter day version of the Roman Empire’
As President Obama unveils his plan to escalate the war in Afghanistan, listen to Ohio Congress member Dennis Kucinich. The United States is going deeper and deeper into debt, says Kucinich. We have money for Wall Street and money for war but we don’t have money for work for healthcare. We have to start asking ourselves, “Why is it that war is a priority but the basic needs of people in this country are not?”
An Interview with Noam Chomsky
Noam Chomsky is one of the world’s most prominent and controversial public intellectuals. He is an internationally renowned professor of linguistics, but he is also a longstanding critic of US foreign policy and the influence of big business over the US government.

When he published his first political critique 40 years ago, he was fired up by the war in Vietnam. Today he is still raging against America’s malign influence and calls the war in Afghanistan ‘immoral’.
